Litter Picks
The ECA organises regular litter picks that rotate around our ward parks and the district centre, so every part of Edgeley and Cheadle Heath gets some attention. All you need to do is turn up.
No experience needed, and it's a great one for families. An hour or two of your time helps keep the places we all use looking their best.
Here's the plan
You bring
Yourself, and a bit of time
Just come along on the day. Wear clothes you don't mind getting a bit mucky, and sturdy shoes if you have them.
We bring
The tools and the organisation
Litter pickers, hoops, bags and gloves are all provided, along with someone to point you in the right direction and arrange for the rubbish collected to be taken away.
Each pick focuses on a different part of the ward in turn, from our parks and green spaces through to the district centre, so the whole area benefits over time.
This builds on point six of our Six-Point Plan, cleaner alleyways and greener communal spaces, and the progress residents have already made turning neglected spaces into ones the whole community can enjoy.
What a pick can lead to
After one park pick, spending a couple of hours walking the park properly turned up more than just litter. Our councillors were able to follow up on a few things afterwards: graffiti on the park entrance sign was cleaned by the council, damage to the play area flooring was reported for repair, and overgrowth encroaching on public footpaths was flagged for the council's maintenance schedule, with the Community Payback team also helping cut it back. Drainage issues around the steps and paths were picked up too.
A litter pick is a good excuse to get eyes on a park properly, and that's often when the other issues come to light.

Upcoming litter picks are listed on our events calendar, and we post a reminder on our official Facebook page ahead of each one.
